A lot of people have asked me if this is a tribute to "How to train your Dragon", and I do see why, even if it wasn't initially supposed to be. I wanted to paint a mountain landscape, and I wanted it to be wild and earthy. I figured I needed something extra, a part of a story unfolding, and I started by just adding the girl heading into the wilderness with her backpack. But something was missing! I wanted to hide something among the rocks , something shy and camouflaged, and felt like a serpent-like dragon would fit in well. Only after did I realise that the dark dragon, the human trying to earn it's trust and the Nordic landscape felt familiar! But hey, that's art for you, what goes in comes out in a different way, shape or form!
